Meeting Purpose
The First Annual Merit Review of the Office of Vehicle Technologies (OVT) Program Portfolio
The information you need to perform your role in the subject review of the merit of the DOE Office of Vehicle Technologies portfolio of research, development, demonstration, and deployment activities is posted on this web site. Since the entire OVT portfolio is being reviewed by external experts, I would like to clarify the purpose and expectations which I have for this and subsequent reviews.
Over the past several years, the OVT portfolio has undergone significant and substantial changes including the addition of some responsibilities previously executed by other Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) Offices. In addition to these activities, Presidential Initiatives designed to reduce the Nation’s dependence on imported oil have been delegated to OVT. OVT must do its part by assuring that the many and diverse activities which the Office supports are all of the highest priority and support the President’s and the Administration’s policy directions. The results of this Merit Review will help assure that only those activities of the highest priority continue to be supported and even increased in this challenging budget environment.
For your participation, I thank all of you who are involved in this critical review. Your thoughts, recommendations and insights are a valuable component of the process which every government program must carry out to assure that taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and produce real results for the Nation. I am looking forward to working with you and hearing your comments on our program.
